Design-Build in the Public Sector

Architect Training Course

This 3-hour online comprehensive course educates the student about the 'ins and outs' of public sector design-build. It reviews the historical impediments to the design-build process and why those impediments no longer seem as strong today as they were a few years ago. The course then turns to specific delivery, procurement, contracting and execution challenges that need to be considered. Specific public sector projects are used as examples, as well as some of the most important caselaw that has arisen on these projects.

There will be a multiple-choice quiz at the end of each scenario.

At the conclusion of this course, you will:

  • Have a strong sense of not only the reason that public sector design-build is so popular, but how to address the challenges in this market
  • Have all of the tools necessary to understand how the public sector design-build market works
  • Understand the role of the design professional in a private sector design-build project
  • Understand the procurement, legislative contracting aspects of public sector design-build
  • Learn how to competently and successfully execute design-build projects -- regardless of whether the student is on the 'at-risk' design-build team or an advisor to the owner
